Interior Scenes
Notes for the Artist
Windows as a Light Presence more than a Light Source: For Daytime Interior Scenes, buildings often have windows or openings that reveal some of the outside world. The main role of the windows in these interior shots should be to give the impression that it is daylight outside. This lighting should be mostly ambient, and we should avoid casting any dramatic film noir types of shadows in through the windows for daytime scenes.
Visibility of Outside Objects: For our well-established buildings, giving a sense of the outside surroundings is desirable, but for Decoratable Buildings only a vague sense of the surroundings should be implied (maybe a little bokeh foliage, if outdoor-adjacent), this way the same backdrop is reusable for all instances.
If it is possible for an otherwise well-lit interior room to be dark during the daytime, see the separate lighting mode: Daytime Dark Room (this does not apply to some outdoor structures, since they are always ambient lit in the daytime, and are considered well lit in that state.)
Game Engine Notes - Characters in Interior Daytime Scenes
Characters in Interior Scenes are lit with Overhead Standing or Soft Front Standing Lighting, depending on the light sources within the room.
