Storytelling Units

NOTE: This page uses the “>” symbol in the following way:

A > B

This indicates that “A” is composed of one or more “B”

Overarching structure for Franchises:

Game Series > Game Titles (Releases, Entries, or simply Games)

Structure for a single Game:

Game > Episodes > Scenes > Shots

Shots are flexibly composed of Beats which include:

See: Time Tracking

See also: Story, Casting Decisions

Storytelling Units

Each Title or Game can be divided up into the following units, shown in a rough analogy with Books, TV, and Movies:

In a game… In a book… On TV… At the Movies…
Beat such as Line of Dialogue or Choice Sentence Line of Dialogue Line of Dialogue
Shot Paragraph Shot Shot
Scene Page Scene Scene
Episode Chapter Episode Act
Title (Release) Book Season / Series Film

Since our storytelling method doesn't have to be linear, there can be entire Episodes within a Title that function like optional side-quests.
